Technology Lets Families Work at Home Together
More and more, technology is creating a way that both mom and dad can work from home, if they so choose. Thanks to the rise in popularity of blogs, especially deal blogs and mommy blogs, more women are able to care for their kids while making a good living at home.
Sometimes, the dads are able to partner with their wives and work with them on the business. Or, an alternative arrangement is that the dads stay home and care for the kids while the moms work at home.
If you thinking being a blogger may be the perfect fit for you, know that most blogs don’t generate enough money to provide a living right away. Still, there are steps you can take to increase your chance of success.
1. Set up your website. The first step is to set up your blog, obviously. You can use a site like blogger.com, but self-hosting is generally the best bet. Buy a domain name, hosting from a company like Intechnology, and hire a web designer if you are not able to create your blog yourself. Make sure the blog niche you choose is not overly saturated and that you have a unique angle. For instance, kosheronabudget.com is a deal blog, but it is specific to Jewish women. This is the unique angle I am talking about.
2. Study the pros. There are many, many successful blogs out there, but some of the most successful in the deal/mommy blog niche include dealseekingmom.com, 5dollardinners.com, and moneysavingmom.com. Subscribe to these sites if you don’t already, and take note of what seems to be working for them.
3. Find a mentor. Don’t be afraid to reach out to some of the bloggers you admire and ask them if they will be willing to mentor you. You could learn a great deal from them if they agree.
4. Attend blog conferences. Nothing beats meeting and learning from other bloggers in person. Attending at least one blog conference a year can help you grow your blog friends and readers.
While not everyone will be able to make enough money to blog full-time, there are plenty of people who are doing it. Follow these steps, and you may be on your way.
