100% Biodegradable food containers - from recycled wheat straw

Fast food chains use a lot of containers, Polystyrene containers. Which are not recycle, non-biodegradable packaging, requires petroleum to manufacture and takes eons to break down in landfill.

A Hong Kong based company, Innovasians, is offering a 100% biodegradable packaging and containers made from straw left overs, which are usually just wasted after wheat harvesting.

Biodegradable packanging or containers

Currently, the company has design these biodegradable packaging products for fast food chains. They can manufacture a wide variety of product from food trays to cups. Honestly it does not look modern or stylish maybe a limitation to the product composition. But it is 100% Biodegradable, which no chemicals are needed when disposing them.

The product is not just environmentally friendly. It is also flexible and durable for variety of use. The product is Microwave safe, Oven safe up +150°C, Handle Oil up to +250°C, Dishwasher safe and Re-usable.

The whole manufacturing process and completed composition of these containers are still confidential. But the recycled straw comes from agricultural fields after wheat is harvested. If not used these straw becomes a waste product from harvesting.

The product is manufactured in China based on a Canadian patented technology. The straw used in the process are recycled and abundant. Plus it takes a part of the waste the needs to be disposed. The manufacturing process does not release or use any toxins, since no petroleum-based raw materials are involved in the process.

Product comparison Biodegradable Packaging vs Polystyrene:

There has been no detail on how much the product costs. But currently it is already being used by three Asian clients. Considering that recycled straw is the main material used composing 60% of the product, It should not cost that much more than polystyrene containers - if not lesser.

Hopefully, they can release more details on the processing and costs. But will fast food chains switch to this greener and cleaner product?.

There has been growing community pushing to replace and eliminate non-biodegradable packaging or containers. A lot of companies and establishments has also started implementing and promoting campaign to go green. With proper support, this product can be a major factor in this campaign.

@65062e944cd152d925c670356926dcf2:disqus & @5cf0e21622f920d4fb3de3fb244844d2:disqus Why wasn’t it helpful ? It is way better than using non-recyclable plastics. And if it is recyclable, not 100% of it will be recycled. So biodegradable is better right?
And this is intended for fast food chains, not specifically on home use only.

mind to share your thoughts why it wasn’t anyway helpful?
